WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

The non-profit Herbert & Maria Welter Tierschutzstiftung was founded to protect animals at the grassroots level - without the high administrative costs that come with large permanent staff. This simple idea guided our founder, Nick Jordan, when establishing the foundation. With the approval of the Cologne District Government, we have been actively working to save our fellow creatures since 8 October 2018.

Soon after, the idea grew further: to support individual trust foundations for different animal groups, all under one legally recognized umbrella — so help could reach even more animals, without detours.

OUR FIRST STEPS IN ANIMAL WELFARE

Our journey began in Mallorca, where we set up feeding stations for feral, abandoned, and distressed cats, built shelters to house and care for cats and dogs, and provided a dedicated vehicle for daily animal welfare work.

Since then, we've expanded our support to wildlife stations, elephant and bear protection projects, and animal welfare initiatives across Germany. We also work with schools to teach children early on that animals are innocent living beings who deserve respect and care.

HOW WE FUND OUR WORK

The Herbert & Maria Welter Tierschutzstiftung finances its grassroots animal welfare work exclusively through donations, bequests, and income from asset management. We are both a supporting and an operationally active foundation.

Every project we fund is regularly and personally inspected by our team on-site - ensuring reasonableness, transparency, and lasting animal welfare impact.
