About us

Who we are & what we do

The origins and commitment of the Herbert and Maria Welter Animal Welfare Foundation

The non-profit Herbert and Maria Welter Animal Welfare Foundation was set up to protect animals in accordance with its statutes. The foundation aims to protect animals at grassroots level, without the high administrative costs that can arise from employing permanent staff and their salaries, for example. This was one of Nick Jordan's premises when setting up the Herbert and Maria Welter Animal Welfare Foundation. With the approval of the Cologne district government, the foundation has been actively working to save our fellow creatures since 8 October 2018. The idea was also quickly born to support individual Trust foundations for various animal groups under the umbrella of the foundation with legal capacity.

First steps in grassroots work to protect animals

In Mallorca, for example, the first measure was to set up shelters for feral, abandoned and distressed cats, to build houses to house and care for cats and dogs, and to provide a shelter for the daily work. Other organisations with wildlife stations, elephant and bear projects are also supported. In order to also raise awareness of animal welfare in the long term, school children are integrated into the projects to learn at an early age that animals are innocent living beings and must be respected.

As a first measure, for example, in Mallorca Feeding stations for feral, abandoned and distressed cats, built houses for the accommodation and care of cats and dogs, and established a Animal Welfare Wagon provided for the daily work. Other organisations with wildlife stations, elephant and bear projects are also supported. In addition, in order to raise awareness for animal protection in the long term, school children are already integrated into suitable projects to learn at an early age that animals are innocent living beings and must be respected.

Funding of the Foundation

The Herbert and Maria Welter Animal Welfare Foundation finances its grassroots work for the protection of animals exclusively through Donationsbequests accruing to it and by the income from asset management.
Our foundation is supporting and at the same time operationally active itself.
All funded Projects are regularly and personally checked by us on site for reasonableness as well as compliance with criteria of sustainable animal welfare.

Animal lovers who support the Foundation and one of its special Projects who would like to support the Herbert and Maria Welter Animal Welfare Foundation more strongly, not just through a clause in their will, but already during their lifetime, can make a corresponding donation to the Herbert and Maria Welter Animal Welfare Foundation.

Through, for example, a Endowment*This will give us more planning security for our animal welfare foundation so that we can plan the foundation's investment income for the rescue of animals in the long term.

* Endowment
An endowment is a voluntary contribution to a foundation. Sub-foundations increase the basic assets of a foundation. Sub-foundations can consist of money or contributions in kind (e.g. real estate).
In contrast to a donation (timely use of funds), a sub-foundation is preserved in perpetuity (basic assets).
